For Immediate Release: Milton, ON — March 31, 2014 — Milton will be celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility at Shoeless Joe’s, 800 Main Street East, Milton, an event hosted by Michelle Emson, award winning Transformation Speaker & Trans* advocate.

“Visibility is the key that leads to awareness, understanding, and ultimately, acceptance” said Michelle, “which in turn will reduce marginalization and violence towards people who choose to express their true gender identity. I chose to be visible in Milton, during my transition, and to my delight the community has accepted me for who I am.”

The event will give people of all genders, the opportunity to learn, share, and discuss, the joys and challenges of living authentically. In addition, Marcus Logan – Coordinator of the Positive Space Network of Halton will be on hand to talk about local resources and experiences working with gender variant children and their families in the Halton region. Marcus will also speak about his role as the Camp Director of Camp Ten Oaks, a week long camp that supports children and families, many from Halton.“I am very pleased to be a part of raising awareness of trans issues in our community and particularity honoured to be working with Michelle in Halton. The Positive Space Network and Camp Ten Oaks both provide a safe place for LGBTQ youth to be themselves” said Marcus Logan, Camp Director “a place without the judgment and bullying often experienced elsewhere.”

“Allies are vital for any Trans* person”, continued Emson “Anyone going through a gender transition needs the ongoing help and support of their family, friends, colleagues, and community, as well as organizations like the Ten Oaks Project.”
