Liona Boyd & Srdjan Gjivoje perform "Liona Boyd Sings Songs of Love"

Sanctuary Studios were chosen to provide concert sound for Liona Boyd's first stage appearance in seven years. Presented by Milton Concert Presentations (MCP) at St. Paul's Church, Milton, ON the performance was in support of her latest album "Liona Boyd Sings Songs of Love" - a collaboration with Croation born singer/guitarist Srdjan Givoje. Sanctuary Studios were chosen due to the complex, detailed and specific requirements requested by the performers to ensure a faithful reproduction of their album in a live setting.

 

The live acoustics of the venue provided both a challenge and service for sound engineer Mike Emson who shared that: "Providing sound reinforcement in such a reverberant room can often be troublesome due to the lack of control over the reverb characteristcs. However, once the capacity audience filled the pews the natural reverb was tamed to a point where I could subtly compliment it and deliver the sweet, enchanting sound sought by the clients".

For her first ever vocal performance Liona Boyd provided her own Neumann KMS 104 cardiod vocal mic and DPA-4099G acoustic guitar mic. Both were a perfect match for her voice and guitar styles. The KMS104 is a professional cardiod mic with a wonderfully flat forward sensitivity and extremely high rear attentuation which is perfect for the non-intrusive style of Liona Boyd's performance. The discrete DPA instrument mic ensured that the full dynamic range of the guitar was captured effortlessly.
